Orange mayor John Davis on Tuesday praised renovation efforts at the historic building, at a ceremony to present the clinic’s owners with a Tidy Towns certificate.
“It’s been here for many, many years, and the council thought that it was certainly very worthwhile to encourage the owners and the developers to keep the heritage and facade out the front,” he said.
“I’ve got to be ... amazed that it’s come out so good, it’s better than new, it’s absolutely better than new.”
Orange Dermatology is the only clinic in the state outside of Sydney that can perform Mohs surgery, a procedure used to treat common forms of skin cancer.
Part-owner of the clinic Tracy Davies said the size of their old premises in Summer Street restricted their ability to carry out the surgery.
“We did do it, but not to the same extent because we’ve got so much more room now,” she said.
Access to parking is improved at the new site, and the presence of a cafe across the road is proving mutually beneficial.
“The cafe’s been fantastic, she’s getting a lot of business from us,” dermatologist Kylie Daniel said.
The Tidy Towns certificate was presented for the preservation of the streetscape and the building’s heritage, and is one of around a dozen presented each year.
