“Counsellors, librarians, teaching assistants and career advisors will all be in one centralised and convenient location,” TAFE Western student engagement officer Anne Burfitt said.
“People come to enrol not knowing what they want to do [so] having these people all together will allow them to make the best decision, most informed decision, about what to do.”
Parkes, Dubbo and Mudgee will also see the creation of student hubs which will allow travelling careers advisors and teachers’ assistants to have a place to meet with students.
Ms Burfitt said the team at TAFE is working very hard to ensure the hub is ready for its August launch.
“Our aim is to keep students in their course until they finish and support them in their endeavours.”
As part of the library transformation and National Youth Week, celebrations were held at TAFE giving students, teachers and the wider community the opportunity to find out what options are available to them.
Information was provided to those in attendance including TVET students, with career advisors giving talks during the day to different groups on managing their wellbeing.
There was also entertainment put on by the music department and a sausage sizzle for lunch.
“It’s to increase awareness of what TAFE has to offer, showcase talents of music students and show we’re supporting all students,” Ms Burfitt said.
