Orange Netball Association’s Charlotte Jasprizza started at centre for the blues, but it was the WA girls’ height at either end of the court that proved decisive in a 46-24 victory.

NSW’s latest loss is the side’s third in five games to begin this week’s championships.

Western Australia’s win moves them past NSW and into the top four and in the box seat to grab a semi-final berth.

NSW must win its final two games against Queensland and the Northern Territory to be any hope of playing in the semi-finals on Friday.

Head Coach Briony Akle was obviously disappointing with two wins from five games, but is pleased with the effort of her young NSW outfit .

“We have definitely got some girls out there who are really trying their best and giving it all they’ve got for NSW,” Akle said.

“We’ve done some really good patches of play but to win games we need to be consistent, so I’ll be looking for a full 40 minute effort from our girls for the remainder of our games.”

With Jasprizza running hard in the mid-court, the NSW girls watched on as WA flew out of the blocks to an early 5-nil lead thanks largely to 197cm goal shooter Annika Lee-Jones in the circle. 

Giving 12cm away to her opposing player, goalkeeper Billie Gurr did everything she could to limit the prolific shooter’s influence on the game, however couldn’t stop the high ball from coming into the circle.

WA led at every change - 15-5 at the first break before 25-12 at the half and then 37-20 - before the final 22-goal margin at full-time.

NSW will take the court again on Thursday at 12.15pm in Melbourne.
