Australian residents too will soon be able to buy the oil from major supermarket outlets as the company develops a brand for distribution on a large scale in the domestic marketplace.
The trade pathway into China means it is the first time the company has produced, marketed and sold the locally-grown, non-GM canola anywhere in the world.
Until now, Manildra Packing has packaged MSM Milling’s canola oil under international brands including Healthy Baker, Crust, AUYOO and Manildra Gold.
Manildra Packing business manager Peter Jones says the company has invested in a new bottle-filling line that will allow the oil to be packaged in one, two and four-litre bottles.
“It means farmers who grow the premium canola will soon be able to buy the oil straight off the supermarket shelf. There’s a growing market for premium canola oil and we’re excited to be entering it,” he said.
“The MSM Milling oil will also be sold in 20-litre drums and 1.5 litre bag-in-box options for regional independent food retailers, providors and caterers.”
The latest production and distribution announcements are a long way from the humble beginnings of the business, which was the vision of the MacSmith family at Cudal.
“This is an exciting time for the company,” MSM Milling director Bob Mac Smith said.
He said the production expansion and distribution came at a time when many Australian businesses were scaling back, while MSM Milling and Manildra Packing were going ahead in leaps and bounds.
“We are investing in the future for our regionally-based-and-operated companies,” he said.
“My brother Pete and I never imagined we’d be selling our own branded oil here or in China.
“It is very pleasing and humbling,” he said.
