Ms Kaye has made the move from performing to choreographing for the well- known musical after being a part of the chorus in previous productions including Hello Dolly, The Wedding Singer, and The Wizard of Oz.
Taking on the role of choreographer brought its own set of challenges for Ms Kaye.
“Razzle Dazzle is the most challenging. It’s the biggest chorus number.”
With a chorus of 18 people ranging upwards from the age of 17, Ms Kaye has been impressed with their commitment to learning the routines, with many coming in before rehearsal to practise.
There are a number of showstopping hits over the course of the show, from All That Jazz to Mister Cellophane, giving everyone a chance to shine.
Working with director Bruce Buchanan and assistant director Sam Fuda, Ms Kaye is adding her own touch to the classic 1920’s style.
The audience can expect to see “a bit of Jamie” in among the jazz from the Windy City.
“I’m enjoying the creative process and bringing to life what Sam and Bruce envisage,” she said.
Chicago opens at the Orange Civic Theatre on Friday, May 9 with tickets available through Ticketek.
