PLANS to open a service centre in north Orange are progressing well, says developer Richard Sharpe, who has already signed a petrol retailer as his first tenant and expects to lodge a development application (DA) with Orange City Council in the next eight weeks.

Mr Sharpe, who is the co-owner of land in Hanrahan Place, near the Leeds Parade roundabout, says the 24-hour petrol station, which he declined to name, will be large enough to accommodate B-doubles.
A car wash will also open at the site.
“We want to build it straight away but we have to wait till the DA is approved,” Mr Sharpe said.
“We’ll get this underway as quick as we can make it happen.”
Mr Sharpe said he was in negotiations with a number of fast food outlets but was yet to sign any contracts.
“We really want this to be a precinct for fast food,” he said.
Mr Sharpe said the development plans for the service centre had been well-received by north Orange residents keen to see services in the area expand.
“People have been very keen on having a petrol station in north Orange, especially people coming from out of town.”
Mr Sharpe said while north Orange was a growth suburb that needs to be serviced, it was important not to draw too many services away from the city centre which he said needs to continue to thrive.
“I think the shopping centre in north Orange has been a runaway success,” he said.
“I don’t think people in Sydney know how great Orange is.”
