Playing in Bathurst on Saturday as part of the women’s PLH gala day, scores were locked at nil-all at halftime with both sides unable to convert their chances.
Early in the second half, Jade Williams took her opportunity off a short corner to score the winning goal for Ex-Services.
In the dying stages of the game, Parkes had multiple short corner opportunities but the Ex-Services girls were able to keep them out to hold on for the win.
Ex-Services co-coach Darryn Marjoram said it was great for the players to finally get a win on the board.
“It was a hard win. Both teams had a number of chances,” Marjoram said.
“The girls played very well. They’re starting to put the passes together.”
Ex-Services had gone through their first four games with three losses and a draw.
They’ve had to play a couple of games without a goalkeeper and have also struggled to have any reserves.
This time they had both.
“Erin (Horan) played well in goals,” Marjoram said.
“Having a goalie is a bonus. Having subs is a bonus, and it’s working for us.
“They all played well. There were times when they could have given up but they didn’t.
“I think the wins will start to come now.”
Ex-Services will be gunning for back-to-back victories in the next round when they take on hometown rivals Confederates this Saturday.
Feds are yet to record a win, but Marjoram said his players wouldn’t take them lightly.
“Confederates will be tough. They’re going well and I don’t think the results are showing how well they’re playing. I’m sure they’ll lift for the derby,” he said.
