FOR a player who’s spent the majority of the last two Blowes Clothing Cup seasons helping Orange City lap the rest of the competition, arguably the biggest moment in Josh Tremain’s rugby career came last weekend.

And it wasn’t while wearing a Lions jersey.
Eleven years after helping the Central West colts claim the 2003 Country Championship crown, Tremain took his place in the Central West Blue Bulls side that won the 2014 Caldwell Cup over Newcastle in Mudgee.
For the 30-year-old veteran, adding another title to his already glittering rugby honour board was an unbelievable feeling.
“It means everything. It’s fantastic,” Tremain said.
“It’s one of the things I really wanted to win. Personally it feels fantastic.”
A two-time Blowes Clothing Cup winner, a President’s Cup champion, a Lachlan Shield, Richardson Shield, Colts Country Championship and now Caldwell Cup victor, Tremain admits there’s not a lot left to win in the zone.
But that won’t dent the desire the spiritual leader of the Orange City club has.
The Lions begin another premiership defence on the road on Saturday, tackling the might of the Boars in Parkes in a blockbuster grand final rematch.
Making the trek minus 11 of last year’s grand final winning starting side, including skipper Michael Sparks and try-scoring phenom Sione Lafo’ou, the Lions will remarkably go into Saturday’s game as underdogs.
“That obviously takes a big toll. It’s going to be one hell of a task,” Tremain said, hoping fresh blood will bring about a new sense of enthusiasm to the Lions fold.
“That, in my opinion, is what we’re looking forward to the most.
“The new guys coming into the side, they want to play for us and we want to play for them, they want to be part of the success and it adds a new dimension to the team. They’re all good players, it’s up to them to show everyone that now.”
Tremain labelled Parkes half-back Johnny Rathbone as one of the stand-out players from the Caldwell Cup and said stopping the dynamic pivot will go a long way towards Orange City springing an upset road victory.
Saturday’s grand final rematch begins at 3.15pm at Northparkes Oval.
