FORTY-THREE cyclists and 12 support crew have surpassed initial hopes and are celebrating raising more than $115,000 to be shared by two national charities, four Manildra organisations, eight small schools and a pre-school.

Last week’s four day, 630 kilometre Mill2Mill charity bike ride from the Manildra plant in Bomaderry to the Manildra Flour Mill in Manildra attracted unprecedented support from locals, regional small businesses, national companies and the media, which all helped the event exceed fundraising expectations.
This is the third staging of the Mill2Mill and the most successful to date. The money will be shared between the McGrath Foundation, beyondblue, the Manildra Showground Trust, the Manildra men’s shed, the Manildra Lions Club, the Manildra Public School, St Joseph’s School Manildra, the Manildra Pre-School, as well as schools that supplied refreshments to riders during the ride in Windellama, Crookwell, Boorowa, Bribbaree, Caragabal and Bogan Gate.
The ride organiser, director of MSM Milling in Manildra, Pete Mac Smith, said the fundraiser received enormous corporate and private support.
“In addition to our corporate supporters, we were fortunate to secure generous donations from small businesses, many of which are located in regional areas battling the drought.
“ We’ve been blown away by all donations, and I was especially humbled to receive a $5000 cheque from Alan and Rachel Magill in Parkes, $500 from the Pacific National Social Club and $500 from FoodService Central,” Mr Mac Smith said.
All riders paid to take part in the event and several also made generous donations, Mr Mac Smith said.
“We cannot forget the 12-strong support crew. Every member volunteered their time, took annual leave from their positions and gave up their week to ensure the riders’ safety. They made the ride possible and for that, I thank them.”
