“I just wanted to score a century,” the 15-year-old CYMS batsman said.
“And I was able to do that in juniors.”
The rest of Hannelly’s 2013-14 season was a bonus.
And some bonus it was.
The James Sheahan Catholic High School student amassed a whopping 1129 runs over the course of the warmer months, finding the middle of the bat more often than not for SJS-CYMS, the NSWCC Berg Shield side, Orange District Junior Cricket Association and Mitchell Cricket Council representative teams and CYMS’ senior outfits.
His lone ton came for CYMS-SJS in the ODJCA’s under 16s competition, hitting 103 not out in February.
Hannelly also hit eight half centuries, with an average of 51.32 across his 38 innings this summer.
They’re incredible numbers.
But they’re numbers Hannelly has worked extremely hard to get.
“I guess it’s a fair reflection of the effort I’ve put in this summer,” the Year 10 student said.
A huge fan of the game, Hannelly spends most days of the week throughout summer training or playing cricket, with Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s usually always wiped out by the young batsman’s dedication to the crease.
“And then I might have a game on a Monday for opens or Tuesday or Wednesday ... it can be every day sometimes,” he added.
A first grade debutant with CYMS in 2013-14, Hannelly said he’d love more first grade cricket if the opportunity arose.
“Depending on who’s available and my form,” the modest top order bat said.
