For a Blue Bulls side that made it known speed was their game plan, there wasn't too much on show in the 15-5 victory against Central Coast.

Central West co-coach John Hamilton said both sides were up for a battle at Glen Willow Regional Sporting Complex.

“I think we broke their line early in the piece and then did it a couple of times before they worked us out. Then it became a contest up front,” Hamilton said.

“Once we got a roll on against Far North Coast they sort of fell to pieces, whereas with Central Coast, it didn't matter what we threw at them they were up for it and kept coming back at us.”

Central Coast coach Brett Marchant said he was proud of the colts and where they were headed.

“They dug in and Central West were pretty classy, it was a good game of footy,” he said.

“We were thereabouts but just couldn't finish it off.

The tightness of the Rowlands Cup battle was exemplified by a 3-0 halftime score to Central West.

After making two handling errors, Central West's Harry Taberner redeemed himself by posting the match's first try.

Minutes later Central Coast scored their sole try through Rhys Sexton.

The Blue Bulls then scored their final try through outstanding second rower Daryen Hazell who barged over close to the line, similar to his performances the day before against Far North Coast, when Central West won 46-7.

Hamilton praised all players from the final.

“I thought our number seven, Billy Freeman was outstanding. In the second row Daryen was great as were all the boys. Adam Perri was good, as was Terry Brown throughout the tournament,” Hamilton said.

“I'm really happy for the boys. They come from all over the zone and play as a team.

“A couple from last year certainly helped us because we've got a bit of a game plan and they understand what we're trying to do and what we're trying to achieve.”
