Patients at Orange hospital along with seven other hospitals in the area have taken part in the survey with 86 per cent of patients saying they were treated with dignity during their illness and hospitalisation.
“We are absolutely ecstatic at these results,” said acting manager of Orange Health Service and director of nursing,” Sue Patterson.
“We are also thrilled that we have been rated highly when it comes to people saying they had a really positive experience here and would recommend it to family and friends,” said Ms Patterson.
The Bureau of Health Information compiled the patient surveys with data gathered between January and June 2013.
Ms Patterson said she is confident the hospital’s introduction of an innovative structured interdisciplinary bed rounds (SIBR), system of care at the hospital, where patients and family members meet at regular times with hospital staff, has gone a long way to improving patient satisfaction in the hospital.
“This has been so successful we are now going to roll it out across the hospital starting with the cardiology and surgical wards,” Ms Patterson said.
In the survey 93 per cent of respondents in the Western Local Health District rated their hospital stay as a good to very good experience, with 78 per cent of respondents saying they would rate their hospital experience highly to family and friends.
However Ms Patterson said the hospital does not shy away from any criticism.
“We are always working to improve what we do here at the hospital and we do have some challenges as it is the largest trauma hospital in the region,” she said.
“But we do welcome feedback from patients and families as an opportunity to improve what we do,” she said.
Ms Patterson said the survey results reflect the compassion, caring and professionalism of staff at the hospital.
