The Central West Rugby Union community is about to find out, with Orange Emus and Orange City to face-off in the final pre-season hit-out for both clubs on Saturday at Endeavour Oval.
Minus a throng of opens and under 20s Central West representatives courtesy of the country championships in Mudgee this weekend, both Emus and the Lions were originally scheduled to play Parkes and Cumnock respectively tomorrow.
But when both fell over Lions co-coach Mick Gray picked up the phone and rang his Emus counterpart Andrew Logan.
And here we have it, a trial local derby.
“I’ve got a pretty good relationship with Mick,” Logan said.
“It’s good for both of us. It’s not like last year where we played each other in round one, we don’t play for another eight or nine weeks this year.
“They’ve got a few changes to their side from last year and so do we, we won’t be giving too much away either.”
Orange City tackles the Boars in Parkes in round one on April 5 and Emus travel to Bathurst to take on a rejuvenated Bulldogs.
Both will be extremely tough, first-up encounters.
It’s why Logan was originally thrilled to have a trial match against a typically physical Parkes outfit this weekend.
But with the Boars loaded with central west representatives in both the colts and opens, Parkes cited a lack of numbers below their top tier as cause for pulling the pin on the Northparkes Oval trial.
Unfussed, Logan said the Orange City hit-out would see his club hit round one of the Blowes Clothing Cup running.
“We wouldn’t typically do it and we won’t be giving much away,” he added.
“I imagine we’ll just be feeling each other out at this stage.”
Saturday’s Emus-City trial begins at 2pm at Endeavour Oval.
