Western, which includes players from Blayney, Kelso and West Wyalong, demolished Sydney North 2-0 (25-19, 25-19) in its first game of the day, largely thanks to slick work at the net from Paris Sylvester.
The red and greens also secured straight set wins in their other two round games, over Riverina (25-15, 25-22) and South Coast (25-12, 25-21).
Western’ s Mathew Reeks didn’t do his NSW CHS selection chances any harm with more powerful work, while Lachie Farr and Bailey Waldron continued their run of form into the second day of play.
Western heads into the third and final day of play with five wins from six games, in equal first position with heavyweights Sydney West, and Sydney East.
Sydney South West sits on four wins, as does Hunter, while Sydney North has three.
North Coast, North West and Riverina all boast one win each, while South Coast is yet to taste victory in the carnival.
Western takes on Sydney East at 9.45am on Thursday, in what is sure to be a blockbuster game, before clashing with Sydney South West at midday.
The top two ranked teams then play-off for the state title, at 1.40pm.
