The tower’s construction is expected to take 12 months, meaning residents will be able to sign up to the NBN service in early 2015, Member for Calare John Cobb said.
The tower is one of 14 in the latest roll-out across NSW after work began on two other fixed wireless services in Cudal and Cargo earlier in the month.
Mr Cobb said he looked forward to the roll-out continuing to prioritise those areas which don’t currently have adequate services.
“Aside from the new suburbs in Bathurst and Orange, Calare was not even on the roll-out schedule for the NBN,” he said.
“Now with a priority on need in the roll-out we are seeing our communities being pushed up the list and actually getting services rolled out.”
NBN Co’s fixed wireless facilities service less densely populated communities across Australia surrounding major townships, offering wholesale download speeds of up to 25 megabits per second and wholesale upload speeds of up to five megabits per second.
Work is yet to start on towers recently approved at Springside, Spring Hill and Millthorpe.
