IN a weekend full of nail-biting results, Wanderers defeated Gladstone by nine runs in the Orange District Cricket Association second grade semi-final, setting up a grand final clash with Orange City.

After being sent in by Gladstone skipper Ben McAlpine, Wanderers made the most of a flat Jack Brabham (2) deck, piling on 243.
Steve Nean (67) led the way, with healthy contributions from Gareth Faul (35), Gavin Smith (27) and skipper Daryl Kennewell (26).
Brad Cotter was the pick of the Gladstone bowlers, taking 3-35.
With just four overs left in the first day McAlpine chose to attack, taking 30 from Daryl Kennewell’s first two overs before being dismissed with just two balls left.
On the second day Kyran Bubb (73 not out) and Jason Tarleton (43) came together at 5-69, taking the score to 149 before the latter was dismissed.
Rich Manning (17) and Bubb continued the fight, but ultimately Gladstone fell nine runs short.
Scott Kennedy (4-39) and Kennewell (3-86) were Wanderers’ best with the ball.
In third grade Orange City destroyed an under strength Centrals, giving the Warriors a third team in next week’s grand finals, along with first and second grade.
Batting first, Rob McInnes (13) was the only Centrals batsman to break double figures as they were dismissed for 48.
Jase Corby continued his run of golden form with the ball, taking 4-9, and taking his season wicket tally to 28.
City cruised to a comfortable nine wicket win. Skipper Jason Beasley remained 37 not out, while Logan Hareb was seven not out.
CYMS also progressed to next week’s grand final in third grade, with a 17-run win over Cavaliers. CYMS piled on 8-216 in its innings, with Andrew Borschtsch (60) and Mitch Winslade (52) both raising the bat, before rain began to fall.
Cavaliers’ chase was reduced to 151, from 31 overs. A valiant effort from Col Morris (56) and his team went unrewarded, as CYMS’ medium pacer Nadeem Ashraf (4-41) led his team to victory.
In Centenary Cup, CYMS Kellys and KWS Young Guns secured grand final spots with respective 15-run and nine wicket wins.
Jeremy Finlayson (38) led CYMS to 8-122 before Sam Cooper snared 3-7 to roll club mates for 107 in reply. KWS Young Guns chased down Orange City’s target of 77.
