BREAKING NEWS: Police arrest woman in relation to Clinton Street house fire

THURSDAY, 7.50AM:

POLICE have charged a woman after a suspicious house fire in Orange.

Just after midnight on Wednesday emergency services were called to a home on Clinton Street following reports of a fire.

Following inquiries, police from Canobolas Local Area Command arrested a 54-year-old woman in Orange late on Wednesday.

She was taken to Orange Police Station and charged with two counts of breaking and entering a house.

She was refused bail to appear in Orange Local Court on Thursday.

WEDNESDAY, 4PM:

FORENSIC police spent Wednesday examining the scene of a house fire in Clinton Street after initial investigations determined the fire may have been deliberately lit.

Emergency services were called to the house at 12.05am Wednesday, by which time the front two bedrooms of the property were alight.

The residents were not home when the fire started.

It took fire fighters about two hours to extinguishing the blaze, which caused extensive damage to the house, leaving two bedrooms completely burnt out and the rest of the house, including the roof, with smoke and water damage.

Canobolas Local Area Command Inspector Peter Atkins asked anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the area around midnight on Tuesday to contact police immediately.

He said officers spoke to neighbours early Wednesday morning and conducted a doorknock of the area.

“We’d like anyone we didn’t speak to to contact us immediately,” he said.

Inspector Atkins said the matter would be referred to the coroner.

Yesterday police cordoned off entry to the house with crime scene tape.

A small section of footpath on the opposite side of the street had also been blocked off and was being examined as part of the investigation.
