POLICE are investigating a fatal motor cross bike crash near Mudgee on Saturday afternoon.

About 2.30pm, a 24-year-old man was riding the bike around a Motocross track at Bombira, when he crashed on the course.
Officers have been told the rider fell short of one of the designed jumps and was thrown from his motorbike.
The man sustained extensive internal injuries and was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics, before being taken to Mudgee District Hospital.
He was later airlifted to Westmead Hospital, where he was rushed into emergency surgery but later died in the Intensive Care Unit.
Officers from Mudgee Local Area Command were alerted to the incident and are investigating.
Inquiries into the matter are continuing and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
