About 1am, police from Canobolas Local Area Command attempted to stop a black Toyota Landcruiser on Peisley Street for the purposes of a random breath test.
The driver allegedly failed to stop and police initiated a pursuit.
During the pursuit, officers observed the Toyota drive over a speed bump at a high speed, causing sparks to appear from the undercarriage of the car.
As police neared the speed bump, they saw the Toyota had left the roadway and crashed into a tree outside a home.
Police located a 22-year-old man conscious in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, where he remained until NSW Ambulance Paramedics attended and treated him.
The man was taken to Orange Hospital with a suspected broken ankle. He remains at the hospital in a stable condition.
Investigations have established the Toyota allegedly left the roadway shortly after driving over the speed bump and crashed into a concrete light pole, before becoming embedded in the tree.
No one else was injured during the incident; however, a Mitsubishi Lancer parked in the driveway of a home on Heatherbrae Parade sustained damage as a result of debris from the crashing car.
The Toyota has since been removed from the scene.
Investigations into the matter are continuing.
