WENTWORTH’S Steve Bray has won the 2014 City of Orange Veterans Golf Classic A grade crown, shooting a seven-over par 77 on his home course yesterday to complete back-to-back veterans wins.

Bray maintained the lead he’d built over the championship’s opening two rounds at the Duntryleague and Country Club courses, finishing the 54-hole championship with a scratch total of 228.
Country Club’s Alan Gordon was the next best golfer with a 54-hole scratch total of 237.
The 54-hole B grade title is headed to Merewether following a strong week of golf from Bruce Welsh.
Fending off a late challenge by Manilla’s Michael Sykes (267), Welsh had his day-two lead cut by three strokes but held firm to finish the 54-hole event with 263 off the stick.
Howlong’s Nick Babic cleaned up in the C grade events.
As he’d done in his first two rounds, Babic dominated at Wentworth to fire 87 and claim the 54-hole crown with 264.
Babic also claimed the 54-hole C grade handicap crown with 195.
On the final day of the 54-hole women’s stableford event at Duntryleague, Nola Maughan dominated the A grade to score 38 points.
The Grange’s Carol Bailey also completed a strong veterans week, adding a stableford score of 36 to already impressive totals of 34 and 35 scored at Country Club and Wentworth.
In B grade, Forbes’ Denise Squires shot 38 points to go with her impressive rounds of 41 and 35 points over the tournament’s opening two days, while Dale McClure (Nelson Bay) and Chris Buderus (Forster Tuncurry) also scored 38 points yesterday.
In the C grade race, Mary Bellamy nailed a score of 40 points to finish a strong campaign.
