The Central West Community Union Alliance has raised concerns about the department cutting three library jobs from the DPI, calling for a moratorium on all government job cuts while the central west faces a jobs crisis.
But a DPI spokeswoman said 13 new jobs in NSW Trade and Investment’s knowledge management and business systems unit would be based in Orange, providing a shared service with the DPI and including library services and records management.
NSW Trade and Investment, the DPI’s overarching agency, recently called for tenders to outsource its IT assets to cloud computing and consolidate and rationalise the services into datacentres at Orange and Maitland.
But the DPI spokeswoman said no positions would be lost when the IT and communications departments were restructured.
“The department has recently called for expressions of interest to canvas the availability of improved technical solutions for IT services,” she said.
“This is about outsourcing infrastructure.
“There will be no job losses as a result of any change related to this process.”
