After the southern region carnival in February and the Diocesan event earlier this month, four students have qualified for individual events at the Polding carnival, along with the junior boys’ relay team.
Thomas Pell, Hugh Thornhill, Rory Thornhill and Natasha Griffiths will compete at the Polding carnival in Sydney on March 28.
Hugh Thornhill will also join with the junior boys’ relay team of Will Thornhill, Dylan Crisp and Rayne Canham for the event.
The Orange school was represented by 40 students at the southern region carnival in Orange.
Throughout the day records were broken by Hugh Thornhill (junior breaststroke and 8-10 years boys’ individual medley), and the junior boys’ relay team.
Hugh Thornhill received junior boys’ champion, Rory Thornhill was senior boys’ champion and Imogen Fitzalan was the 11 years girls’ champion.
St Mary’s Catholic Primary School finished a successful day being awarded the aggregate champion and the average point score champion.
From this, 24 St Mary’s students qualified for the Diocesan carnival where they were again outstanding.
Rory Thornhill was crowned the senior boys’ champion after winning the senior boys’ breaststroke and butterfly, coming second in the open 100m freestyle, senior backstroke and senior boys’ individual medley, and finishing third in the 12 years boys’ 50m freestyle.
Thomas Pell took out the 8 years boys’ 50m freestyle, while Dylan Crisp was second in the 9 years boys’ 50m freestyle, and Natasha Griffiths won the 13 years girls’ 50m freestyle.
Hugh Thornhill was third in the 10 years boys’ 50m freestyle, junior boys’ breaststroke and junior individual medley. Outstanding results from all swimmers meant St Mary’s finished third overall.
The Polding carnival is in Sydney on March 28.
