Orange City (49 points) sits atop the competition ladder following the penultimate round, with CYMS, Centrals and Cavaliers (all 43 points) making up the final spots in the finals race with one round remaining.
Wanderers, 37 points, can’t be discounted, either.
Orange City takes on Centrals in the final round, with the winner guaranteed a spot in the post season.
CYMS takes on Waratahs (25 points) and Cavaliers clash with Wanderers in the final round nine fixture.
Each will bear heavily on the final make up of the top four.
In last Saturday’s round eight games, Wanderers came within striking distance of Centrals, but ultimately fell 30 runs short.
Chasing Centrals’ 6-189, Matt Parish’s knock of 82 nearly got Wanderers home but a brilliant spell of leg spin bowling from Mark Hayman (5-29) netted the red and blacks eight crucial points.
Tom Belmonte’s 101 was enough for CYMS to knock off ladder leaders Orange City.
Belmonte’s century anchored a 6-228 first innings total, a target that proved insurmountable for Jason Corby’s Warriors as the greens fell 73 runs short.
Nadeem Ashrafs 3-7 off four overs was impressively miserly for the green and golds.
Cavaliers bounced back from a last-start loss to defeat Waratahs by 24 runs.
Will Currell again starred with the bat in hitting 63, while the wickets were shared among the Cavs bowlers as they restricted Tahs to 8-152 in pursuit of 7-176.
In other lower grade games, a Ben McAlpine 122 scored Gladstone a big eight-wicket victory over Kinross in second grade.
Centenary Cup games were won by Kinross Young Guns, CYMS Fahys and Kinross 3rds.
The final round of the ODCA regular season begins this Saturday.
