IN my opinion, one aspect of Clean Up Australia Day that must be disappointing for the hundred or so volunteers in Orange is that a week later there will be the same amount of rubbish in many areas.

During my daily walk, I see large numbers of plastic bottles and other general rubbish in gutters and on footpaths.
We seem to have the same, small percentage of residents of all ages who simply don’t care and seem to have no pride in their community.
Those words could also apply to the disturbing news report of vandalism and antisocial behaviour in the Bowen area (“Vandalism shatters home dream”, CWD,March 3).
Like many people, I have no easy answers to these on-going problems.
