IT will not come as a huge surprise that this week’s State of the Climate 2014 report compiled by the CSIRO and Bureau of Meteorology has declared that Australia, along with the rest of the world, is getting warmer, driven largely by climate change.

Among other things, the report notes that Australia’s climate has warmed by 0.9 degrees since 1910, that the frequency of extreme weather has changed, and that seven of Australia’s 10 warmest years have happened since 1998.
BOM assistant director Peter May said: “The report shows that warming both in Australia and globally is certain and human induced.”
Sarah Perkins, a climate research fellow at University of NSW, said: “No matter how you slice and dice it, the evidence is clear that human-induced climate change is continuing to increase the risk of extreme weather and temperatures.”
There is therefore an urgent need for greatly increased action to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Preserving our good health and food production capacity demand it.
