ORANGE councillor Ron Gander says the antisocial behaviour of a group of children and teenagers in the Bowen area has “exploded” and is calling on police, council and Housing NSW to work together to fix the problem.

Cr Gander’s comments come after claims a group of young people, who are reportedly Housing NSW residents, are terrorising residents in Nunkeri Place, Mirral Way and Tumbelluwa Place and vandalising properties.
“We need to get a strategy in place,” he said.
“These kids are totally out of control, absolutely destructive and nobody has the backbone to take them on.”
Cr Gander, who helped establish the Bowen Community Technology Centre with Paula Townsend, said they were both trying to set up a meeting with all parties involved.
“I think the problem is that there are young children with no parental control,” he said.
Cr Gander has seen the destruction the children have caused firsthand and spoken to residents in the area.
“I think the landlords, including Housing NSW, need to be accountable,” he said.
“We’ve had it quiet for a while in Bowen, but now it’s exploded.”
Canobolas Local Area Command Inspector Peter Atkins said it was important for residents in the area to contact them immediately if they witnessed any antisocial behaviour.
