BOWEN residents say problems in the area are not confined to vandalism and graffiti, with some being verbally abused by children who roam the streets at night looking for trouble.

A woman who lived with her parents in an ex-Housing NSW property in Nunkeri Place until recently, said there had been an increase in antisocial behaviour in the area since around June last year and she was worried about her parents’ safety.
“They took on the house so they could shape it into the perfect place for them,” she said.
“When we first moved in it was starting to become a good neighbourhood, but halfway through last year we noticed an increase in vandalism and the amount of kids walking the streets at night.”
She said many residents no longer parked their cars out the front of their houses at night for fear they would have petrol stolen.
“When we leave to go to work or downtown we hear about them looking over our fences and we hear them walking around at all hours of the night, stirring up dogs and bashing on gates or fences"
“We’ve seen kids peep through car windows at night,” she said.

“They deliberately walk in the middle of the road when you’re driving and then when you go around them, so you don’t harm them, you get yelled at.
“They also smash glass bottles on people’s driveways and on the roads.”
Despite problems in the area she said her parents did not regret moving there.
“I still love the neighbourhood and some of our friendly neighbours, but it’s a shame that younger kids have to ruin it,” she said.
“I hope that in future these type of incidents can be resolved.”
