PLASTIC bottles, bumper bars and shopping trolleys are some of the items collected during Clean Up Australia Day in Orange on Sunday.
About 100 volunteers met to clean up sites including Moulder Park, Clifton Grove, Pinnacle Reserve, Lake Canobolas and Glenroi Oval.
Orange Tidy Towns coordinator Roger Smith said while numbers were down this year, and the clean up of Hill Park was cancelled due to the rain, there were still plenty of people willing to collect rubbish.
“Last year we picked up about two-and-a half tonnes of rubbish and I think we would have picked up about the same this year,” he said.
“There were lots of plastic bottles, they were everywhere.”
Mr Smith wants a plastic bottle depository system introduced.
“(Although) now (Orange) council has introduced a green bin and there’s a recycling bin, there’s no excuse to drop rubbish,” he said.
This year there were 5852 Clean Up Australia site registered across Australia.
