HOSTS are being warned to lock up their valuables when they hold a party with police saying the number of thefts which occur at parties is on the rise.
Canobolas Local Area Command Senior Constable Greg Treavors said people need to be more security-conscious when holding a party at their home.
“We really just want to heighten people’s awareness,” he said.
Constable Treavors said many of the thefts are the result of party crashers.
“The thefts can also occur when someone sneaks in when the parties are going on,” he said.
“The items which have been stolen the most are mobile phones, iPods or iPads. “
Senior constable Treavors said police are advising people who host parties to allocate a room which can be locked or placed off limits to party goers.
“Also another helpful tip would be to have someone allocated to keep an eye on the room if it can’t be locked.
“The problems usually occur when people gatecrash the party or unwanted persons attend the party,” he said.
Senior constable Treavors said further tips and requirements when holding a party can be found on the website www.Mynite.com.au where it’s also possible to register upcoming parties to ensure police know when and where they are being held.
