CYMS take on the cellar-dwelling Waratahs today and Le Lievre says a win, first innings or outright, is the goal to at least maintain the buffer between his team and the second-placed Cavaliers.
Le Lievre said first innings points were paramount, but conceded an outright win was the ultimate goal.
“It’s very tight at the top of the table and outright points would be ideal,” he said.
“It’s definitely in the back of our minds, and if we can secure first innings then put ourselves in a position to push for an outright we will.
“Regardless though, I think we’ll play Cavaliers for the minor premiership, but we need to make sure we get ourselves in the best position we can before that, and that means beating Waratahs.”
Le Lievre said his team had been hard to fault in recent weeks, but remained wary of an unpredictable Waratahs line-up.
“On their day Waratahs have the potential to push anyone,” he said.
“Hopefully we can keep doing what we have been and we’ll get the chocolates.”
Weather has played a heavy role in determining the final standings already, and the trend looks certain to continue.
The green and golds skipper said it was disappointing to miss so much cricket.
“It’s unfortunate,” Le Lievre said.
“A lot of guys are disappointed we haven’t played much two-day cricket but that’s how it goes I guess.”
