Orange City Council spokesman Allan Reeder said the work was scheduled to be completed by the end of the week, however that could change due to rain forecasts.
“Road crews will continue to do as much work as possible, while there is only light falls of rain,” Mr Reeder said.
One lane of Peisley Street south of Gardiner Road is closed on the western side while work is being carried out.
Mr Reeder said the work involves removing the damaged surface of the road, stabilising the underlying material and then re-sealing the surface.
Contractors who are resealing the Peisley Street road are also working in Summer Street at night.
“If that work on the highway is put back because of evening thunderstorms this week, that delay will prompt changes to the Peisley Street timetable,” said Mr Reeder.
Drivers are asked to slow down at the southern end of Peisley Street and observe the signage and direction of road workers and to also be aware of road workers in Summer Street at night.
