“Council rangers will be stepping up their patrols of Jack Brabham Park and will be speaking to dog owners to make sure they are aware of the rules in that area,” Orange City Council spokesman Allan Reeder said.
Mr Reeder said he was concerned to hear dog owners are not keeping their animals on a leash and it can be unsettling for an owner whose dog is on a leash to have another uncontrolled dog run towards it.
“It’s a concern dog owners are letting their dogs off the leash in an area like Jack Brabham Park, especially when there’s a designated leash-free area close by at Gosling Creek,” he said.
Council workers have erected several totem style signs around the park reminding owners of their obligation.
On three consecutive days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, a Central Western Daily journalist observed dog owners pull up at the park.
On Friday and Saturday two owners each let two large dogs off the back of their utes in the late afternoon to run across the park.
On Sunday morning a woman was also exercising her German shepherd without a leash.
The area is a shared space where children train and play sport and fly kites and Mr Reeder said rangers will remind dog owners in the area they have to keep their animals under control.
