CYMS skipper Hugh Le Lievre won the toss and batted before Neil led his side to a big total of 5-203.

Neil poked and prodded his way to 84 not out, with handy support from Le Lievre (25) and Sam Dwyer (48).

After losing Grant Koch (0) and Matt Baker (8) early, Neil set about rebuilding the green and golds innings. He and Hamish Finlayson (16) added 52 for the third wicket before Finlayson was dismissed.

Neil and his captain took the score to 130, before a seemingly innocuous single turned into a run out. With Neil powering towards the danger end the errant throw missed its target, and carried through to smash into the stumps at the other end with Le Lievre well short of his ground.

Dwyer joined Neil at the crease, and the pair took the game away from Kinross, adding 71 from the final eight overs.

In reply, the Kinross innings never got going, mainly thanks to Dhatt, who took 4-5 from his eight overs.

Dwyer (2-19) was the only other multiple wicket taker, while Finlayson (1-12), Nick Garton (1-20) and Pat Madden (1-45) all snared individual scalps.

Sam Nicholls (56) and Billy O’Connor (19) were the only two Kinross batsmen to pass 20 as the students were bowled out for 105.

“It was a good win,” Neil said.

“It was a good performance all round really. We batted well, and got a good score on the board and backed it up with the ball. Orange City really did us a favour beating Cavaliers too.”

CYMS win came without pace spearhead Chris Novak, but Neil said the green and golds’ other bowlers stepped up in his place.

“Novak’s bowled well for us since he joined the club,” Neil said.

“We lose a strike bowler with him missing, but the other boys filled the void really well. Kinross bowled reasonably well, their two openers in particular. 

“Unfortunately they didn’t really seem like they were chasing the runs. They stuck it out though, young Nicholls batted well.”
