Orange southpaw Sam Ah-See will look to fulfil a childhood dream  tonight when he attempts to dismantle the previously-unstoppable Shannon “Shaggy” King on his way to the Australian National Boxing Federation super-welterweight title.

The two squared off during the title fight weigh in yesterday at Orange Central and, never short of confidence, home-town hero Ah-See was adamant his lightning-quick hands will get the job done against his powerful opponent.

“He’s as slow as a sloth. He won’t touch me,” Ah-See fired, with King’s imposing record of seven fights for seven knockouts backed up by an equally knockout-heavy muay thai record of 34 wins from 38 bouts with 25 KO’s.

“This is the biggest fight of my career,” Ah See continued, currently nine wins and a draw from 10 fights.

“It’s make or break. It’s in my home town, everyone I grew up with. Hometown advantage, there’s a lot of pressure as well. We wanted this fight, we chased this fight for a few months. 

“Honestly, I’m going to stop Shaggy.

“I’ll be the first one to stop him in his boxing career.”

Prepared to talk up his main weapon, King had this to offer for Ah-See.

“I don’t think he understands how hard I hit,” the 36-year-old said.

“Everyone keeps going on about how hard I hit ... he’s probably faster and it might be hard to catch him, but if I catch him, he’s in trouble.

“I’ve never been stopped, ever. This will be my 45th fight and I’ve never been stopped. Best of luck to you.”

The two stepped on the scales in front of a parochial Orange crowd, one that showed its appreciation towards King with a raucous applause when the Brisbane-based professional said he was gearing up to entertain tonight’s anticipated sold-out Orange Function Centre.

When the two step in the ring tonight, King doesn’t expect a similar reception.

“I’m not an idiot ... I’ve got nothing against Sam, he seems like a nice fellow,” King said.

“I might be a little bit slower than Sam, but I hit harder than a 90-kilo (heavyweight) ... I just want to put on a good show. I’d love to take the belt, but win, lose or draw, I’d just like to put on a good show for everyone that comes and watches.”

Ah-See said he was excited at the prospect of claiming his first professional belt back where it all began.

“I’m really excited ... everything started here. It’s exciting to bring it back and show everyone in my home town what I’ve got. It’s been the best prep that I’ve had. Shaggy’s O has got to go,” Ah-See said.

“I think this will be one of my best fights to date. I’m feeling good. I’m ready to go.”

Tonight’s undercard starts at 7pm at the Orange Function Centre, with a host of Group 10 rugby league players stepping into the ring.

Oberon’s Wade Judd will take on Blayney’s Kurt Beahan while Orange Hawk Alofi Mataele will go toe-to-toe with Blayney recruit Sam Coyte.
