Having added the 57kg Australian Schoolboy title and the 60kg NSW Schoolboy title to his trophy cabinet over the last 12 months, Campbell has been named in the NSW team to contest the 2014 Australian Amateur Boxing Championships (AABC) in Perth, in April.

Winning the state title ensured Campbell a place in the selection trials, set for this weekend. However, Campbell was left without a challenger, giving him automatic selection.

The AABCs are a selection process for the Australian team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. However, because Campbell is only 15 he is ineligible for selection.

“That sort of thing is the ultimate goal,” Brock’s father Scott Campbell said.

“It does open up a few other international tournaments if he was to win, over the next couple of years I think.”

Campbell has moved up a division this year, from the 57kg up to 60kg Schoolboys.

“Having won the title [57kg] last year, this is a chance to back that up with another one,” Scott Campbell said.

“It’s the end result of a lot of hard work for him, and Sutho [Brock’s trainer, Glen Sutherland],” Scott added.

“Sutho puts in a lot of his time with Brock.”

“We won’t know who I fight until I get there though I think,” Brock added.

Sutherland was full of praise for his student, lauding his work ethic.

“He works really hard, and has huge amounts of ability,” Sutherland said.

“Surprisingly for a kid his size, he has a lot of power too behind his punches.”

The 15-year-old orthodox fighter won’t be short of time in the ring leading into the championships.

Last Saturday, Campbell won a unanimous points decision over 14-year-old Kyle Schnider.

“It was pretty much just a practice fight,” Campbell said of the bout.

“I had to pick my work rate up from last fights, which I did really well. I out boxed him.”
