Orange Airport recorded 14.2mm of rain to 9am this morning, with 11.0mm recorded at the Orange Agricultural Institute.
Weatherzone meteorologist Ben McBurney said more rainfall is predicted with Saturday afternoon and Tuesday the best chance of a good downpour.
"We're going to see some more falls today with about five to 15mm to 9am tomorrow [Sunday]," he said.
While Monday is predicted to be relatively dry, good rainfall is on the way for Tuesday.
"Tuesday looks like a thunderstorm will form and could be some falls of 20 to 30mm," Mr McBurney said.
"By Wednesday it's quite a change with a blustery westerly that will clear the rain away."
The wettest day in Orange so far this year was on January 25 when 16mm of rain was recorded.
The city has experienced well below average rainfall so far this year with just 23.4mm recorded in January, the month has a long-term average of 85.4mm
February has also been well below the average monthly total of 78.0mm with just 17.6mm recorded so far.
By comparison Bathurst Airport recorded 13.8mm overnight to 9am with just 0.2mm recorded at Dubbo Airport.
