ORANGE Colour City Running Festival co-ordinator Kim Roweth believes participation levels for this year’s event are on track to better those of 2013, with the two kilometre junior dash leading the way.

Last year’s junior dash involved close to 100 under 13 children and with a little over a week’s time left to register, that figure could be broken in 2014.
It’s the second year the 2km dash has been run and Mrs Roweth was confident the event will continue to grow.
“We sat down (after 2012) and thought what holes do we have, and with the five kilometre being the shortest race we ran, there’s not many juniors who can run five kilometres,” she said, with the marathon event also removing a hole from the event’s longer distance program.
“The two kilometre race is primarily focused on under 13s and it’s all about encouraging kids to get outside and exercise a bit.
“There is prizes for first, second and third in both the boys and girls races for those who will treat it as a race, but it’s more about just getting out in the fresh air.”
Registration for the running festival can be made online this year at orangecolourcityrunningfestival.com.au.
Registrations close on Friday, February 21.
“Overall it’s looking pretty similar to last year,” Mrs Roweth said of the numbers heading to Orange for the festival.
“We have had a few people express some concern about the heat but runners will run in just about any conditions.”
The 2014 Orange Colour City Running Festival will be run on February 22 and 23.
The 2km run will begin at 4pm on Saturday, February 22.
