The pair is in a stable condition following the two-car collision.
At 1.38pm the two vehicles collided and a car leaving the hospital was rolled onto its side, with the other vehicle coming to rest on top of it.
According to witnesses an occupant of the other vehicle fled the scene immediately after the accident.
A witness, who asked not to be named, said she heard a “horrendous” bang and offered assistance to the woman trapped in the car.
“She didn’t say anything but she had hand movements,” she said.
“We just reassured her then everyone came over and the ambulance officers asked us to move away.”
“It was awful.”
The witness was leaving the hospital entrance when she heard a loud screech of tyres, she then looked up and saw the silver car flip onto its side.
Police cordoned off the area and restricted traffic on Forest Road while emergency services acted to remove the male passenger from one car and the female driver from the other.
It took crews about 30 minutes to remove the male occupant and an hour to remove the woman.
The extent of their injuries is unknown.
Police at Canobolas Local Area Command were contacted but unable to provide any details.
