WANTED: Footpaths.
One block in Kenna Street without a footpath. Kenna Street to Woodward Street two blocks without a footpath. Woodward Street to Sampson St one block without a footpath.
Several years ago when one family owned the shops in Woodward Street and a house in Kenna Street their was a laneway owned by the same family.
When the shops in Woodward Street were sold and the house in Kenna Street was sold the private lane was closed. People west of Kenna Street had to walk three blocks further to shop in Woodward Street.
That all happened about 30 years ago.
People in Kenna Street still put up with walking in ankle-high, wet grass each day to shop in Woodward Street. I see everyday women pushing prams and old people using walking frames coming out of that area. Not all people are lucky enough to own motor cars.
Would any councillor or general manager put up with walking in these conditions every day? No.
It looks like council’s new project is pushbike tracks, footpaths are on the backburner.
Council started fixing footpaths with yellow paint markings that had ups and downs in them. I heard that it costs too much money so it came to a standstill.
When you go for a walk yellow paint markings in footpaths are like dodging minefields.
Come on council, spend some of our 60-odd years of rates and finish our footpaths.
Charlie Smith,
Orange
