Kinross skipper Toby Polkinghorne was left to rue his decision to bat first, as his troops crumbled, dismissed for just 69.
Charles Litchfield (11), Andrew Litchfield (16) and Charlie Cooper (10) were the only two-blues to reach double figures, as Nick Garton (3-10) and Sam Dwyer (2-10) ran through the students’ top order. Al Dhatt (1-22), Todd Murphy (1-6), Chris Novak (1-5) and Pat Madden (1-14) all took one scalp apiece.
CYMS cruised to victory in reply, passing Kinross’ total in the 13th over. Despite losing Dwyer (5), Murphy (7), Matt Baker (16) and Dave Neil (5) cheaply, Eddie Wright (24 not out) and skipper Hugh Le Lievre (8 not out) saw the green and golds home with ease.
The win confirms CYMS as heavy favourites for the Twenty20 competition, and secured Le Lievre and his troops a place in the semi-finals.
“Our performance was excellent,” Le Lievre said.
“We dropped a few chances, but to bowl Kinross out for 69 is a good effort. Once again the wickets got shared around, and it is very encouraging to see Garto taking wickets for us.
“He’s been biding his time in our second grade set up for a while, and now an opportunity has presented itself and he’s doing well. Getting them four down was pretty comfortable as well.
“Overall I can’t complain about much at all.”
Kinross player-coach Andrew Litchfield said a lack of match practice was evident in the students’ performance.
“The boys showed how little cricket they’ve played over the last two or so months,” he said.
“But, credit to CYMS, they played very well and we just didn’t get enough runs.”
The win sets CYMS up to play Cavaliers in the semi-finals.
