Litchfield has represented his zone at under 14, 16 and 17 level, and now gets the chance to do so in senior cricket.
Litchfield was selected in the Western Zone colts side on Wednesday, and is the sole Orange player named to contest the under 19 NSW Country Championships in Coffs Harbour later this month.
Deservedly so, as Litchfield is the third leading run-scorer in the Orange District Cricket Association first grade competition and a steadfast fixture of the Orange opens and under 21 representative teams.
The colts age group, for representative purposes, changed this season from under 21s to under 19s to align with the state 19s squad. Incredibly, Litchfield is just 16, giving him three more seasons in the age group.
Excitement of being selected aside he said this year was about playing his role and helping his teammates to, hopefully, multiple victories.
“In previous years the Western sides I’ve been a part of have been very good at winning two out of three, and just missing the final,” Litchfield said.
“So hopefully, as this is one of the last rep carnivals for the season, I can put in everything, score a few runs and we can go one further.”
Litchfield said his previous experience playing for Western and bonds formed in past teams puts him in good stead.
The 16-year-old has played with the majority of the squad in previous Western teams.
“The bulk of the side is our 17s team that went away not so long ago,” he said.
“Everyone knows how everyone else plays, and at this level that will help a lot. This carnival is the best [country] under 19 players in the state, so it will definitely test us.”
The Western colts team is one of several teams Litchfield has his eye on for season 2014.
Litchfield had a big 2013, being picked in the NSW under 17 academy squad, the NSW Country under 17s and the ACT under 17 squad and wants to go one better this year.
“NSW Country is the next step from here, at colts level,” he said.
“My name has been in and around these rep sides for a while, so hopefully putting in a good performance at an under 19 carnival will give me a better shot at the NSW 17s side next season.”
