The 50-year-old woman and her 19-year-old son had picked up the pair, who they knew, from an address in North Street and while driving in the Cox Avenue and Icely Road area, the men threatened them while asking for cash and other property.

According to the mother and son the men also discharged their weapon.

Canobolas Local Area Command duty officer Scott Russell said an investigation was under way, however police were unable to confirm if a weapon was discharged during the incident.

At 10.20am on Monday a 28-year-old Orange man was arrested and acting Inspector Russell said he expected charges, including armed robbery, to be laid charges against him.

Inquiries are under way in an attempt to identify the other man involved in the incident.

Acting Inspector Russell said while no one was hurt during the altercation the mother and son were “shaken”.

“This is the sort of thing that we don’t want to see occur in Orange,” he said.

“It’s something we generally don’t see everyday but it has the potential to shake the whole community.”

Acting Inspector Russell said a forensic team was examining the area where the incident occurred and a crime scene had been established.
