SOMEWHERE out in the community there is a sadist armed with a bow and arrow who belongs in jail.
This individual and his accomplice, who was driving what is thought to be a silver Mitsubishi Outlander while he shot a domestic cat with an arrow, are responsible for an appalling act of animal cruelty.
It is the sort of brazen and premeditated act which must make authorities wonder what else this pair is capable of.
Thanks to some security video footage and the arrow used to kill the cat the police and the RSPCA have something to go on.
Police may yet recover some evidence to point them in the direction of the perpetrators but they are far more likely to have a breakthrough if they receive information from the public.
The description of the four-wheel-drive and the information about the bow and arrow may jog the memory of someone who knows the pair, perhaps even heard them talking about the kill.
Whether they will take the necessary step of passing on information which will help prosecute the pair depends on whether they share a similar indifference to animal cruelty or like the rest of the community are outraged.
The next few days will tell, but in the meantime we can only hope members of the legitimate bow hunting fraternity or someone in the community hears or sees something which can help the police.
The last thing this community needs is for these individuals to think such an act will go unpunished.
