According to the Canobolas Zone Rural Fire Service's Geoff Selwood the smoke could be coming from a number of fires in the state including Yass, Wagga Wagga, Albury and Cootamundra.
Fires are also burning in the Oberon National Park and the Abercrombie National Park.
Mr Selwood said residents of East Orange should not be alarmed is they see smoke and fire at the north end of Spring Street this morning as Fire and Rescue NSW are undertaking hazard reduction in the area.
