This year the event was held at Orange Ex-Services’ Country Club for the first time.
Competitors performed well in warm conditions, with some exceptional scores recorded on the day.
Overall winner of the Wayne Pearce Memorial Trophy for the best stableford score was Kerry Kidd with a blistering 47 points.
Kerry is a recently retired teacher who is obviously enjoying the extra time she now has to play golf. Judy Tyson from James Sheahan came second with 39 points.
Chris Dwyer won the men’s stableford event with a massive 50 points.
Mark Griffen received second prize with 42 stableford points.
Congratulations also to Steve Bray who took out the men’s scratch event with a stroke score of 71, with Jordan Clark a close second on a countback.
Jack Newton junior golf development officer Sharon Nott won the women’s scratch event with a score of 82, with the ever consistent Vicki Bray from Calare Public School taking out second place with 85 off the stick.
Special thanks goes to Sharon Nott for travelling from her home town of Dunedoo to assist with the management of the event.
After 11 years sharing her golfing passion with youngsters in schools throughout the greater western area, Sharon has decided to explore new avenues in the new year.
Her enthusiasm and expertise will be greatly missed, however we wish her all the best in the future.
The men’s nine-hole stroke was won by Phil Verhoeven from Canobolas High School with a score of 39, while newcomer Trish Moran from James Sheahan Catholic High School won the women’s nine-hole stroke event.
A new event for men without an official handicap proved popular with Greg Wiencke winning with an impressive score of 82, beating Orange High School colleague Terry Baker.
Many thanks to major sponsors Teachers Mutual Bank for their ongoing support of the day, which allows teachers to meet and celebrate the end of the school year.
Also thanks to Jack Newton junior golf who ensured that all participants received a golf ball and set of tees.
Next year the event will be held at Wentworth Golf Club in December.
