The Piranhas dominated the Cowra leg of the Central West Inter-Club Triathlon Series, bringing home 306 points.
Expectedly, Cowra went well at home finishing second with 95 points, while Mudgee (44), Bathurst (28) and Dubbo (19) rounded out the minor placings.
After two rounds, Orange holds a healthy 326 point lead, sitting atop the table on 558.
Bathurst is second on 232, followed by Mudgee (149), Cowra (146) and Dubbo (34).
The second round of the series drew 63 triathletes from across the region, and Orange’s high participation (37 competitors) led to an easy points win on the day.
The Piranha women swept all before them, picking up the top six overall female positions.
Orange also had 10 age division winners, including Phil Tudor who completed his second consecutive 40-49 male win, tying with OCTC president Steve Martin, with a time of 56.13.
“Phil was more impressive because he only had one gear on his bike,” Martin said.
“He had an incident on the way to Cowra, but he kept up with us, and still overtook us on some of the hills which was frustrating.”
Martin said aside from his tied victory with Tudor, the age division success was a delight, with Lauren Kerwick (14-19), Bridgette Burge (20-29), Jessica Richards (30-39), Dan Miller (30-39), Julie Middleton (50-59), Judy Tarleton (60+) and Brian Kennelly (60+) also taking out their respective categories.
Martin said the female 40-49 division was a highlight for the Orange club, with Piranhas Janet Martin (57.41), Christine Wolfson (58.47), Kim Dale (60.50) and Estelle Dean (63.10) taking out the top four spots.
“Janet was particularly strong,” Martin said.
“It’s great to see Christine back performing well too, she didn’t race in Bathurst.
The Orange Cycle and Triathlon club hosts its juniors’ day on Sunday at Lake Canobolas, before the Dubbo Inter-Club on January 19.
