In a blow for sport fans and businesses in the region, Mudgee will be without an NRL game for next year with the Sydney Roosters deciding to play all their home games at Allianz Stadium (Sydney Football Stadium).
The draw for the first 20 rounds will be released today at 11am while the remaining six rounds of the competition will be known during the middle of the season.
It has been no secret council and the Roosters were in talks for months about playing one of their home premiership matches at Glen Willow.
Previous media reports stated the Roosters and Canberra Raiders were thinking of playing at Glen Willow.
However, when the Bondi club won the premiership, the situation changed.
“We’re not expecting to see Mudgee,” council events co-ordinator Alayna Gleeson said.
“It’s nothing against us [the region]. They are not willing to take away a game from Sydney because they can draw a bigger crowd.
“It comes down to the success of the Roosters last year.”
