Sue and her husband Shane Brinkworth will be among hundreds of exhibitors showing off their beloved dogs at this weekend’s Orange and District Kennel and Obedience Club dog show.
Mr Brinkworth said the dogs were loveable and very much a part of the family.
“They’re loyal and good with kids and they also love their owner,” he said.
The couple’s other dog, and supreme champion, Max is even bigger at 68 kilograms.
Despite only breeding a litter of pups once or twice a year, they have bred 12 champions over the last 13 years.
This weekend’s Championship Double Show has attracted about 340 entries for each day of showing.
“It’s a good show, especially for people in the central west, and the grounds are good,” Mr Brinkworth said.
Committee member Sandra Wills said the dog show was a good opportunity for the general public to meet breeders and their dogs.
“It’s the perfect time to come and have a look,” she said.
“People are only too willing to talk about their dogs.
“It’s a good family fun day.”
There will also be information stands at the show, as well as a Lion’s Club barbecue and coffee van.
The dog show will be held at Wade Park from 9am to 3.30pm tomorrow and Sunday.
Rare breed Maverick set to make his debut
ONE of the rarest dogs in the country will make its debut at this weekend’s Orange and District Kennel and Obedience Club dog show.
Maverick the 16-week-old azawakh will be shown in the hound group.
Owner Fiona Erskine said she fell in love with the breed after she saw one at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
“There’s only eight in Australia,” she said.
“He’s the only one in NSW.”
The sighthounds originate in Africa and are similar in temperament to the Afghan hound.
“They’re only a family unit dog, they’re like a protector,” Mrs Erskine said.
“They’re playful and they move with grace and elegance.”
This weekend’s Orange District Kennel Obedience Club Championship Double Show will be Maverick’s first show.
