WOMEN ruled the track at Towac Park yesterday with race wins and great fashions on the field.
Sunny spring-time weather and a five race line-up attracted around 2000 people to the track.
Three out of the five race wins yesterday were by Orange trainers.
Sylvia Szabo scored a win with Ossi Redmond in race one and All Emotion in race two, while Alison Smith scored a first place in race three with Moville Master.
Racing Orange executive officer Daniel Brincat said race statistics like this helped to keep the meeting viable into the future.
“It was the highlight of the day,” he said.
Chair Ellie Brown said this year’s fashions on the field were all about colour, floral prints and 1950s-inspired dresses.
“Each year is a different thing but this year lots of colour, very floral and very pretty,” she said.
Despite this yesterday’s winner Kristy Smyth wore a classic ivory knee-length spring frock.
“Among the colour she stood out,” Ms Brown said of the winner.
Best hat of the day went to Lauren Desantis for her stunning hot pink, knife-pleated, fan-style hat.
Buses to and from Towac Park were a big hit, Mr Brincat said, with many taking the trip for a gold coin donation.
“There’s a stream of people heading towards the bus just now,” he said after the last race yesterday.
Orange band The Room Upstairs hit the stage after the last race yesterday to ensure punters stayed in a party mood.
