ORANGE City’s Duncan Young and Josh Tremain didn’t hesitate when they were asked to play for Central West in today’s HeartKids Cup game.
A Central West Invitational side will take on the Deadwood Rugby Club in the charity game at Endeavour Oval today.
Young is the only Orange player picked in the starting side for Central West and will run on at breakaway.
Tremain will start on the bench after being edged out for the starting hooker’s role by Dubbo’s Peter Nau.
The Orange City duo know they will be tested by Deadwood, which is predominantly made up of Shute Shield players.
“One of the guys in the Deadwood side I’ve played with before, Mitch Walton. He’s a fullback,” Young said.
“I played Country Schools with him and we’re good mates. He hasn’t told me much (about the Deadwood side).”
Tremain knows what to expect from Deadwood after seeing them in action earlier this year.
“We played in the Bondi 10s this year with the YBM Chargers - a team we put together,” Tremain said.
“We saw them (Deadwood) play and they’re pretty good.”
That’s not to say Central West will get beaten.
Tremain and Young are determined to make sure their side is competitive, especially after going through two Blowes Clothing Cup seasons undefeated with City.
“We haven’t lost for a while, so we definitely want to keep the winning streak going,” Tremain said.
“It’s football - we always want to win,” Young added.
For the Central West players there’s the added bonus of having NSW Waratahs coach Michael Cheika to help mentor them during the game.
Cheika could even ask some Central West players to come and train with the Waratahs to gain some more experience.
“It’s another chance to get noticed. We’ve just got to go out there and play good footy,” Young said.
“That’ll be good to play in front of someone like that. It would be good to get a different view on warm-ups and games,” Tremain said.
Today’s game will raise money for HeartKids, a charity which supports the families of children with heart disease.
There will also be a junior coaching clinic today at Endeavour Oval which will be run by the Deadwood Rugby players.
Cheika is also expected to make an appearance to give some advice to the young players.
The charity game at Endeavour Oval kicks off at 6pm, entry $5.
